The Beautiful Art of Jamdani (জামদানি)

Jamdani (জামদানি) is a Bengali weaving technique which originated in what is now Narayanganj, Bangladesh. The art of the Jamdani Sarees is being replaced by machine woven sarees which are both cheaper and quicker to make. Meaning an old practice is dying. These sarees can take a month to make in some cases and still are revered as the top of sarees. You will know a Jamdani, also known as a Dhakai Jamandai, by the material. It is made up of handwoven fabric made of cotton, also known as muslin. These eccentric patterns are typically drawn up and then woven on the loom.
